Eating Disorders

Well this is my evolved project on eating disorders. It comes in the form of a range of post cards...each one with these images on the front and on the reverse a simple, to the point fact to parents etc, about how to spot an eating disorder. They will come in an opaque envelope with the figure of the skinny girl cut out on the front.

Chameleon Book Re-think

Ok so I changed my mind...I want to do a story about a Lizard with a really long tail...and have the tail all the way through the book as a trail. And use it interactively in some way or another. We will see...

The Vacuum Cleaner

I ve been given "The Vacuum Cleaner" to do a project on in which I must make 4 pieces of print and a vehicle to put it all in, or on, or around, or whatever.

My original idea was to go buy the cylinder from a dyson...you know the clear plastic part where the dust goes? Ye that.
BUT I cant find one anywhere! So...

I am going to do a cartoon from the vacuums point of view...where the vacuum cleaner has its say instead.

There are going to be 4 different short books. From 4 different eras of the vacuums journey. Its going to tell the tale of the vacuums life including real facts about the various vacuums on the market today, and the vacuums thoughts and feelings as though the vacuum is telling the story . It will start from newly shop bought, to being passed around second and third hand to then back in a charity shop where the story will end.
I havnt decided on my vehicle yet but we will see. The background of the pages will be real life pictures with my designed cartoon hoover drawn into real life situations.

Keep watching...

The touchy, feely, play and learn book with fitzgerald the colourful chameleon...

So my personal project will take the form of exactly what my title says:
A touchy, feely, play and learn book with fitzgerald the colourful chameleon :)...or something to that effect???
Not entirely sure...
Anyways, its going to be dead interactive with letters numbers words colours shapes flaps and pop outs oull out tabs and copy the writing.
Again, big ideas no work so more to follow. I am working on my Chameleon so we will see!

Social Issues

I am doing a project on social issues and I have decided to tackle Eating Disorders, more specifically Bulimia.
Unlike Anorexia, Bulimia is a silent eating disorder as there is no stereotype to go by.
Girls or Boys suffering from Bulimia can be of a normal weight, sometimes even over weight.
Bulimia normally occurs between the ages of 19 upwards.

I don't believe Bulimia is well known enough so I have decided to focus on signs and symptoms of someone suffering from Bulimia.
I would like to do an integrated campaign using posters and stickers.

POSTERS: I am planning to use a series of large posters with the typical effects of Bulimia. The posters at a glance will not tell the viewer what its for. The posters will just have the images, which will hopefully be interesting enough for viewers to look closer. Then in the corner will be a tag line (which I haven't thought of yet), a phone number and an email address for a Bulimia support service. I would like the posters to be quite shocking in the hope that people will realise how serious Bulimia actually is.
I. Teeth - Teeth can become decayed and transparent looking with the constant vomiting so I would like this to be one of my posters. It will be specifically designed for in dentists and chemists.
II. Hands - Surprisingly in some cases, hands can be a tell tale sign that someone is suffering from Bulimia. Knuckles can become bruised and cut from sufferers making themselves vomit by putting their fingers down their throat. I think this will make the most interesting poster as viewers in my opinion will stop and look at a poster with a cut hand on it.
III. Swollen Glands/Cheeks and Mouth Ulcers - Once again caused by the constant vomiting cheeks can be swollen and sufferers can complain about stomach ulcers. This poster is aimed to be displayed in Doctors Surgery's and Hospitals.
IV. Dry Skin and Dehydration - When someone is constantly vomiting or using laxatives to get rid of food their body is losing valuable fluids causing skin to look tired and dry. This in turn can cause hair loss and breakage of nails. This poster will be focused for beauty salons and hairdressers.

STICKERS: I have decided to use stickers as part of my campaign. The stickers will be placed in toilets up and down the country with my chosen tag line and a phone number. I feel it is important to get the message across in the place these things happen. Also everyone will use a toilet at some point when they are out and I feel it can sometimes be one of the most public places to display a message.

Ok so there are my ideas...lots floating about and no real work to prove, so watch this space for more to come when I get my head down folks!

Cat Book

This is my Cat Book, "Charlie and his quest for friendship". It is a childrens book for new readers aged 5-6. The story focuses on the important issue of friendship and how you need to treat people. I hope in the future to create more childrens books as I am very interested in this type of design.
These are just a few pages for the book.

Life is Sweet

This is an advertising billboard myself and my colleague designed for 'Revels' sweets. Using Kate Moross' work for inspiration.

Frank Gehry Chair

I used Frank Gehry as insripation to design this chair for putting in the streets of Newcastle. The orange fingure is for scale.
I am sorry the photographs are such poor quality!

Geo-Poetics

Less rather than more words Being here alive to Buzz and thrum of rock & tree Hoverfly hill watercourse & housing estate Embedded in the wild Patio paving heaves with Ants woodlice moss ivy-leaved toad flaxGarden campanula Black ground beetle crossing patio South to north...

Karen Matthews

Just a couple of pieces of miscellaneous work about the Karen Matthews Scandal. A partly illustrative picture for a newspaper article.

Chronicle of a Death Foretold

I re-designed the book cover for a Chronicle of a Death Foretold. These are my three final designs. I tried to make them all different in a way. I would like to also keep developing these when i get the chance.

Go to Work on an Egg

The brief was to design an egg cup holder for a business person that could hold an egg, toast, juice, cutlery, salt, pepper, butter and rubbish.
I designed a small hardback container that could be strapped to your arm for safety and ease of carrying.

Inter-active

"Making each minute of each short life count..." I designed a supporting Website for the children's charity "Rainbows" for terminally ill children. I designed the Logo and the Layout of the site, along with everything that went in it. I also designed a poster/ambient campaign to promote the site. I have included pictures of the campaign in situ.

Bone Study

Just a quick study of bones I completed during my portfolio class.

"Lie"

This was my very very first university project. I was given the word "Lie" and had to turn it into an object or sculpture in a day, that could go on to be used as a piece of public art. I took the word and interpreted it in my own way. I went with "to be caught in a web of lies". My model developed substantially throughout the day as you can see in the photo. It started of as a flat web but by the end I had the webs intertwining with each other for more depth.
